The upcoming 2020 season for the NFL and your pools faces lots of uncertainty due to the nature of the spread of the COVID-19 disease and the physical, close-contact nature of the sport. We wanted to have a policy and contingencies in place for a number of possible outcomes of the season, so you know what to possibly expect prior to running your 2020 NFL pool. Our hope is that we can get in a full regular season and playoffs, but that is very much up in the air at this point.
We will not be offering direct refunds for the 2020 season. We don't ask for payment until the 2nd week of the season, so we should have a reasonable idea if the season will progress by then. If pools are considered incomplete by BenchSports (see below) for the season, you will get full credit for the amount paid towards your 2021 NFL pool.
If we have a shortened NFL season, which BenchSports considers a complete pool, we will be offering some sort of discount (amount TBD) for returning pools in 2021.
In the event the NFL doesn't play a full 17 week schedule plus playoffs, we will consider the pool to be complete if one of the following occurs:
In the event a game is cancelled or postponed to later in the season, we will remove the game from the week, and clear any selections of the teams involved for that week. This is similar to what we have done previously when games were affected by hurricanes. It is your responsibility to monitor the schedule as well and adjust your picks as necessary.
When sending out or posting your pool rules this season, be sure to have some sort of contingencies in place and let people know under what circumstances a payout will happen and what circumstances a pool will be cancelled.
We've reduced the base price tier from 20 entries to 10 for 2020 at least. We don't want cost to be a barrier for smaller pools, so we've knocked it down to 10 to hopefully make it more cost effective for those just starting out.
If you have any questions or concerns you can email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we would be happy to discuss them.
